For stats, no pet is 'better'.
It's all about the bling factor. many people like underworld spiders for bling factor, but they work just as well as Tigers from Shing jea island.
Pick one you like the look of and roll with it.
I like the crocodiles from Nightfall.

There is no best pet, but there is a worst pet.
All the pet are the same except the bear which has a lower DPS due to the useless brutal mauling skill.

Is the story about rats using a skill causing desease by a very low chance true? The 1st time I heard about it I thought it was another legend like: "pre-searing spiders are tamable and use poison", or "UW spiders have better stats than the other pets", but since I checked guildwiki and saw it mentionned, with the name of the skill used. Has anyone here ever seen that?

having a pet that inherintly cuases a condition would unbalance things in PvP, alot. Not likely to happen.

I still have my Melandru's Stalker from Presearing. Ol' Fodder's been very useful in the Tomb of Primeval Kings.

There is no "best" pet, a worst pet (bear), but no "best" pet.
But, just between you and me....LYNX'S FTW!!!!
Zergling has been with me ever since I layed eyes on him right outside Lion's Arch. Hydralisk (the lizard) took a lot longer to find...but Ultralisk (bear) took even longer. gotta love StarCraft.
P.S. Gonna replace the bear with a hippo...more dps.

right now on my ranger i have a crocodile, hes awsome and makes hissing sounds....i might eventually get a rat though because thats just funny having a pet rat that attacks people. also it is confirmed that there is like a 1/100000 chance(or something like that) that the rat will cause disease.

This NOT a reliable source, which is why I asked the question, however you can check: http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Jahai_Rat (and the discution about the article). Still I wanna see that 1st or have a bunch of people confirming this before I believe it's true.

A thought just occured to me regarding the Jahai Rat. There are conflicting stories about whether or not the rat inflicts disease. I may be reading into this way too much but is it possible that it doesn't actually cause disease, but will spread disease to enemies when it has been infected?
